Each flint and steel striker is Hand forged by a St. Louis local blacksmith.
Made from high carbon spring steel.
Please keep in mind that these are hand forged and will have some surface rust due to the quenching process.
Striker face: 2 3/4" length x 1/8" width.
Total length of striker 4 1/8" (top of handle to bottom of striker) x 1 5/8" width (striker face to outside of handle).
1 large piece of texas flint is included with the purchase.
Flint and Steel strikers are the "old fashion" way of starting fires.
Long before the Lewis and Clark Era, this item was one of man's most valued possessions.
When the flint is struck against the steel (or the steel against the flint) in a downward quick motion, a spark is produced.
For the best result the flint and steel should be used in conjunction with char cloth, tow and kindling and a fire is the result.
