This is a style of striker that came out during the "Rocky Mountain Fur Trader" Era from the 18th Century. They throw exceptional sparks.
Each flint and steel striker is Hand forged by a St. Louis local blacksmith.
Made from high carbon coil steel.
Please keep in mind that these are hand forged and will have some surface rust due to the quenching process.
The strikers are pulled at random. Because they are handmade, the strikers vary from striker to striker.
Average: Striker face: 2 3/4" length x 3/16" width.
Total length of striker 3 1/2" x 1 1/2" width (from striker face to end of andle).
1 large piece of texas flint is included with the purchase.
Flint and Steel strikers are the "old fashioned" way of starting fires.
Long before the Lewis and Clark Era, this item was one of man's most valued possessions.
When the flint is struck against the steel (or the steel against the flint) in a downward quick motion, a spark is produced.
For the best result the flint and steel should be used in conjunction with char cloth, tow and kindling and a fire is the result.
